Gregg and Karen McGowan, owners  of Capital InteriorScapes, have been providing expert design and horticultural services for over 20 years.

We design with an emphasis on Biophilic Design, which is an understanding that the connection to nature is critical to human performance and well being,  especially within the built environment.
Research has demonstrated that we feel better and are more productive in the presence of plants. The Living Building Challenge ( www.ilbi.org) which pushes the envelope of sustainable building, includes credits for both Biophilic Design Attributes as well as Beauty.  This process recognizes the importance of sustaining the people within a sustainable building.

While the LEED process currently  does not award  a credit for interior plants directly, the headquarters of Ecology and Environment in Lancaster NY has received a credit in Innovation in Upgrades, Operations and Maintenance for “Biophilic Attributes” siting the benefits of  their extensive interior plantings.
